Bishop Mitchell Rozanski calls Springfield diocese 'home' on 2nd anniversary

SPRINGFIELD – It has been a busy August for Springfield Catholic Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski.  He returned from leading a group of area pilgrims to World Youth Day in Poland on Aug.4, celebrated his 58th birthday two days later, and marked his second anniversary as leader of Western Massachusetts' 217,000 Catholics on Aug. 12.

Rozanski is used to being busy, and to having a calendar of challenges as well celebrations as Springfield's ninth bishop. He says seeing the faith of the young pilgrims in Poland "uplifted and heartened" him, and adds the diocese is planning its own Pilgrimage Day for all ages and with presentations in English, Spanish and Vietnamese, on Sept. 10 at Camp Holy Cross in the Berkshire County town of Goshen.
